Depending on the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program, the engine sound could vary from a subdued note suitable for long-distance cruising to a raw and emotional roar. The exhaust flap, located in the front third of the exhaust system, was infinitely variable and controlled based on drive program, driver input, and engine speed.

For those desiring even greater auditory customization, a Performance exhaust system with three electronically controlled exhaust flaps was available as an option for both engine variants. This system provided an even wider range of exhaust notes, controllable via a button on the center console. In “Comfort” mode, the engine remained quieter, while in “Sport +” and “Race” modes, the V8 sound became even more dominant and evocative of a race touring car, complete with acoustic up-shift and distinctive double de-clutching feedback. Beyond drive program settings, the engine sound could also be adjusted individually at any time with the push of a button.

Dynamic Engine Mounts in the C63 S

A unique feature of the C63 S, setting it apart from competitors, was the inclusion of dynamic engine mounts – technology borrowed from the Mercedes-AMG GT. These mounts addressed the inherent conflict between comfort and handling by actively reducing vibrations from the engine/transmission unit. The dynamic mounts could seamlessly adjust their stiffness in fractions of a second to adapt to prevailing driving conditions and driving style.

Softer engine mounts enhanced comfort by effectively reducing noise and vibration. Conversely, stiffer mounts improved handling and agility. During dynamic driving, the driver experienced a more direct connection to the vehicle due to increased feedback, and steering response became more immediate. Overall, this technology contributed to a more precise and engaging driving feel, minimizing drivetrain movement and reducing the need for steering corrections during cornering.

“One Man, One Engine” Philosophy
