Mercedes Supercharger Access: A Game Changer for Mercedes-Benz EV Owners

Mercedes-Benz is making significant strides in enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) ownership experience. Starting February 2025, drivers of Mercedes-Benz battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in the United States will gain access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network. This pivotal move will add over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States and Canada to the Mercedes me Charge service, drastically increasing charging accessibility for Mercedes-Benz EV owners. Canadian drivers will gain access later in 2025.

This integration signifies Mercedes-Benz’s dedication to building a comprehensive and convenient charging ecosystem for its customers. By tapping into the reliability and reach of the Tesla Supercharger network, Mercedes-Benz is addressing a key concern for EV adoption: charging infrastructure. The seamless integration into the Mercedes me Charge service further simplifies the charging process for drivers.

Expanding Charging Options with Tesla Supercharger Network

The inclusion of the Tesla Supercharger network is a significant expansion of the Mercedes me Charge service. This service already provides access to a multitude of charging networks, including Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging stations, IONNA, Electrify America, EVGo, and ChargePoint. With the addition of Tesla Superchargers, Mercedes me Charge will encompass over 110,000 public charging points across the US and Canada. This extensive network provides Mercedes-Benz EV drivers with unparalleled charging flexibility and convenience, whether they are commuting locally or embarking on long journeys.

Franz Reiner, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, emphasized this commitment: “By opening access to Tesla Superchargers in North America to our customers, we underline our commitment to providing our customers with as many charging options as possible. The fast-growing network of charging points available in Mercedes me Charge will now expand to over 110,000 public charging points across the United States and Canada, providing Mercedes-Benz drivers with an industry-leading charging experience whenever and wherever they choose to charge.”

Seamless “Plug & Charge” at Mercedes Superchargers

Mercedes-Benz BEV drivers will benefit from the effortless “Plug & Charge” functionality at Tesla Superchargers. This feature streamlines the charging process by automatically initiating the charging session as soon as the vehicle is plugged in. Payments are then processed seamlessly in the background upon completion of charging.

To ensure smooth operation, a complimentary software update will be provided by authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships for all compatible vehicles. This update will enable the Plug & Charge feature at Tesla Superchargers. Customers with eligible vehicles will be contacted to schedule their software update. Alternatively, charging can be initiated via the Mercedes-Benz app or the intuitive MBUX infotainment system.

The integration of Tesla Superchargers into Mercedes-Benz’s “Navigation with Electric Intelligence” system further enhances the user experience. This intelligent navigation feature calculates efficient routes, factoring in optimal charging stops and charging times. Through the Mercedes-Benz app and MBUX system, drivers can also access real-time information on charger locations, availability, status, and pricing for all charging points within the Mercedes me Charge network.

Adapter Solution for Current Mercedes-Benz EV Models

Recognizing the needs of current Mercedes-Benz EV owners with CCS1-compatible charging ports, Mercedes-Benz will offer a certified NACS to CCS1 DC fast charging adapter. This adapter will allow these existing vehicles to utilize Tesla Superchargers. It will be available for purchase at authorized Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the United States in Q1 2025 for $185, and in Canadian dealerships in Q2 2025 with pricing to be announced closer to launch. Customers will be informed when the adapters become available.

This Mercedes-Benz approved NACS to CCS1 adapter is specifically tested and certified for safety and full compatibility with all Mercedes-Benz BEVs and any NACS DC fast charging station, ensuring a reliable and safe charging experience.

Future-Proofing with Native NACS Integration

Looking ahead, Mercedes-Benz is proactively adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS). Starting in 2025, new Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles in North America will be equipped with native NACS ports. This forward-thinking approach eliminates the need for an adapter for future models, providing direct and seamless connectivity to NACS DC fast charging points, further simplifying the charging process for Mercedes-Benz customers.

Mercedes-Benz: Building a Robust EV Charging Ecosystem

The integration of NACS and the Tesla Supercharger network is a testament to Mercedes-Benz’s comprehensive strategy for EV charging. In addition to this collaboration, Mercedes-Benz launched its High-Power Charging network in North America in November 2023. This initiative aims to establish Mercedes-Benz branded 400kW chargers at strategic locations, with expansion plans to cover half of US states by 2026.

Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz is a partner in the IONNA joint venture, along with seven other major automakers. IONNA is committed to deploying 30,000 high-power charging points across North America, with the first “rechargeries” scheduled to open this year. These combined efforts demonstrate Mercedes-Benz’s holistic approach to enhancing EV infrastructure and promoting widespread EV adoption.

Dimitris Psillakis, CEO, Mercedes-Benz USA, summarizes the significance of these developments: “As our technologically advanced and highly compelling all-electric vehicle portfolio continues to grow, we recognize that a critical component for a seamless ownership experience for our customers is to ensure convenient access to a broad charging network. Adopting the NACS standard in our electric vehicles and opening the Tesla Supercharger network to our battery electric vehicle customers represents an important step forward as we continue to build a strong foundation to bring additional, game-changing all-electric vehicles to the market.”

Mercedes-Benz is clearly committed to leading the charge in the electric vehicle revolution, making EV ownership more accessible and convenient than ever before through strategic partnerships and innovative charging solutions like Mercedes Superchargers access via the Tesla network.
