Mercedes SLS AMG GT3: Black Series Spirit in a Racing Machine

Mercedes-Benz has unleashed a spectacular racing machine for sporting customers: the SLS AMG GT3. While the road-going SLS supercar had already turned heads, this GT3 version elevates performance to an entirely new echelon, echoing the raw power and focused engineering synonymous with the legendary Black Series. Built for the rigorous GT3 racing class, this track-ready beast is available for those with the ambition, skill, and resources to compete on the grid.

Set to debut in autumn, the price remains undisclosed, though Mercedes hints at a ‘comparatively favorable cost structure’ within its competitive racing class. For context, the Porsche 911 GT3 R is priced around £250,000. Driven by strong customer demand, the SLS GT3 boasts a wider stance than its production sibling, featuring a prominent front splitter and an adjustable rear wing. Strategically placed vents in the wheel arches, a rear air diffuser, and a meticulously smoothed underbody ensure optimal aerodynamic efficiency, allowing it to slice through the air with minimal resistance, a trait reminiscent of the aerodynamic focus seen in models like the SL65 Black Series.

Power figures are yet to be officially confirmed, pending FIA approval to maintain competitive balance within the GT3 class. Similarly, the final weight is still to be determined. However, power is delivered via a rapid-shifting six-speed sequential racing gearbox with paddle shifters. The suspension is fully adjustable, catering to the demanding needs of track environments. Lightweight wheels and enhanced brakes further underscore its racing pedigree, ensuring agility and stopping power.

Inside the cockpit, a purposeful racing steering wheel and a single digital display dominate the carbon-fiber-rich environment. This screen provides crucial data, including lap times, keeping the driver informed and focused. An integrated fire extinguisher, activated by a center console button, and a comprehensive roll cage are essential safety additions, completing the transformation of the SLS into a serious contender, embodying the uncompromising performance spirit often associated with Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance lineage, including the coveted Black Series.
