Stock KSP Mercedes Formula One Car Replica: Drive Like Rosberg or Hamilton

Hello fellow Kerbonauts!

Today I am excited to share my stock replica of the Mercedes Formula One Car, a vehicle inspired by the championship-winning designs of Mercedes-Benz. Not fully satisfied with other stock KSP F1 cars available online, I decided to craft my own version from scratch, aiming for a design that captures the essence of the real-world racing machine.

This creation is modeled after the 2016 Mercedes Benz F1 car, the very car that propelled drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton to victory, securing both the Driver’s and Constructor’s World Championships. My Kerbal Space Program rendition measures 5.9 meters in length, stands 1.7 meters tall, and spans 2.6 meters in width. For added functionality within KSP, I’ve incorporated a docking port at the rear, allowing you to seamlessly dock this F1 car with your spacecraft for transport or missions. I strived to maintain dimensional accuracy as close as possible to the actual W08 car. In terms of weight, my model comes in at 3.699 tons. It’s worth noting that this is heavier than the real F1 car!

Technically, this KSP Mercedes Formula One car boasts an eight-wheel-drive system. I’ve doubled up on wheels to emulate the thicker, more robust appearance characteristic of Formula One tires. Electrical power is reliably supplied by a radioisotope generator, eliminating the need for solar panels and ensuring consistent power delivery. While the car includes fuel cells and liquid fuel tanks, these are primarily for aesthetic detail in this stock version and are left empty to reduce weight. However, you have the option to fill them and utilize the fuel cells if desired. I can confidently say that this is the most stable and maneuverable rover I have ever constructed in Kerbal Space Program. The eight-wheel drive undoubtedly contributes to its exceptional handling. Furthermore, the strategically positioned spoilers are designed to generate downforce, enhancing grip and stability, particularly at high speeds on Kerbin. Interestingly, it remains surprisingly drivable even on the Mun, although the aerodynamic spoilers won’t provide downforce in the Mun’s vacuum environment.
