Remembering Maria Mercedes Castillo: A Life of Love and Kindness

Maria Mercedes Castillo, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and friend, peacefully passed away on December 13, 2024, at the age of 92. Her memory will forever be held dear by those who knew her, remembered for her inherent kindness, remarkable strength, and an unwavering love for her family.

Mercedes Castillo was predeceased by her beloved husband, Luis Castillo, and her son, Juan Castillo, both losses deeply felt throughout her life. She is survived by her loving children: Leticia (Raul) Quintana, Ramiro (Guadalupe) Castillo, and Eduardo Castillo. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were touched by her warmth, infectious laughter, and boundless love. They will forever carry the imprint of Mercedes Castillo in their hearts.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Monday, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, located at 719 Loring at Cortez. A Rosary for the Deceased will be recited at 7 p.m. at the same location.

The funeral service for Maria Mercedes Castillo will be held on Tuesday, with the cortege departing at 9:00 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church.

Following the Mass, the interment will take place at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, where Mercedes Castillo will be laid to rest.
