More Variety Tailored to Customer Needs: The New Mercedes-Benz eSprinter
The eSprinter, mirroring its combustion engine counterpart, showcases exceptional practicality through its modular design. This adaptability broadens its appeal across diverse industries and use cases, offering CO2-emission-free transportation without compromising on range flexibility, body styles, or payload capacity. North American customers now have the option to select an 81 kWh battery variant, complementing the existing 113 kWh option, and can combine it with various wheelbase and roof height configurations. This strategic move empowers businesses to pinpoint the ideal eSprinter setup that aligns perfectly with their payload and range requirements.
By providing diverse battery capacities, Mercedes-Benz addresses a spectrum of customer needs and total cost of ownership considerations – from nimble inner-city deliveries to efficient regional distribution. For businesses prioritizing maximum payload, the 144” wheelbase with a standard roof can accommodate up to 3,516 lbs and offers a generous 319 cubic feet of cargo volume. Alternatively, the extended 170” wheelbase with a high roof, when paired with the 81 kWh battery, expands the cargo volume to an impressive 488 cubic feet while still maintaining a substantial payload of up to 3,120 lbs. Notably, this configuration offers nearly 500 lbs more payload capacity compared to the same setup with the 113 kWh battery. All eSprinter models maintain a permissible gross vehicle weight of up to 9,370 lbs.
Iain Forsyth, Director of Product Management and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans USA, highlights the customer-centric approach: “Daily delivery vehicles generally follow a fixed predictable route that is usually under 150 miles – making the eSprinter the perfect solution for last-mile-deliveries. However, businesses have different needs when it comes to range, cargo volume and payload. It’s important to us to expand our product mix and provide options that tailor to their specific commercial purpose.”
The eSprinter’s permanent magnet synchronous motor stands out for its exceptional efficiency. It is available in two power outputs: 100 kW or 150 kW peak power, delivering up to 295 ft.-lb of torque. The 81 kWh battery provides a robust electric range of up to 329 kilometers (~204 miles) based on WLTP testing, making it well-suited for urban last-mile delivery operations. For extended range requirements, the 113 kWh battery pushes the range up to 478 kilometers (~297 miles). Both the 81 kWh and 113 kWh battery options support both AC and DC charging. DC fast charging at up to 115 kW can replenish the 81 kWh battery from 10 to 80 percent capacity in just over 30 minutes.
Mercedes-Benz is committed to enhancing charging accessibility and convenience. Through the Mercedes me connect service Mercedes me Charge, eSprinter drivers gain access to a vast network of nearly 100,000 public charging points across the nation, creating one of the largest integrated charging networks in the U.S.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz is actively developing the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network, aiming to establish a new benchmark for fast, reliable, and premium EV charging, accessible to all EV brands. Complementing this public charging infrastructure is the new Mercedes-Benz Wallbox, offering a convenient and intelligent home charging solution for eSprinter owners.
For commercial fleet customers, Mercedes-Benz USA’s collaboration with ChargePoint facilitates access to Fleet Depot Charging solutions. This partnership delivers tailored charging hardware, vehicle telematics, and software solutions designed to optimize fleet operations.
The New Mercedes-Benz Sprinter: Enhanced Safety and Intelligence
For nearly three decades, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has defined the modern light commercial vehicle segment. Its name has become synonymous with the large van class, establishing itself as a flagship model celebrated for its adaptability to diverse customer and industry-specific requirements. The 2025 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter upholds this legacy, delivering enhanced comfort and capability across various configurations, including cab chassis, powertrain options, cargo and passenger vans, rear- or all-wheel drive, and gross vehicle weights up to 12,125 lbs. All models now feature the smooth 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, with all-wheel-drive available on select models. This extensive range of variants ensures the Sprinter remains a tailored solution for virtually every industry, making it a preferred choice for upfitters. Over 75 percent of commercial Sprinter sales involve conversions by upfitters into specialized vehicles, ranging from delivery vans and passenger buses to refrigerated units, ambulances, construction vehicles, and camper vans.
The 2025 Sprinter generation marks a significant leap in safety, comfort, and digital integration, while retaining its hallmark flexibility. The optional MBUX multimedia system now incorporates a 10.25-inch touchscreen display and a color instrument cluster display. Both screens offer intuitive touch control via panels on the newly designed multifunction steering wheel. This advanced steering wheel employs capacitive sensors, similar to smartphones, enabling hands-off detection. Another notable convenience feature is the optional smartphone storage with wireless charging capability.
Current MBUX Generation and a Host of Digital Extras
Both the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and eSprinter are equipped with the latest generation MBUX multimedia system featuring a 10.25-inch display. This system boasts enhanced processing power and refined menu navigation, delivering a seamless digital and interactive experience. The intelligent voice assistant is now even more sophisticated, allowing certain commands to be initiated without the “Hey Mercedes” activation phrase. Utilizing microphones in the optional overhead control panel, the voice assistant can identify the command origin, knowing, for instance, which front seat occupant requests seat heating activation. “Hey Mercedes” can also explain vehicle functions and provide assistance with tasks like Bluetooth® smartphone pairing. MBUX now provides wireless smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Software updates and new vehicle features can be conveniently delivered over-the-air (OTA).
A particularly useful MBUX function is the rear space view, which utilizes the rearview camera to project a hatched area on the central display, indicating the space required for rear door opening. This programmable distance can be adjusted based on load size, enhancing loading and unloading convenience by allowing drivers to assess clearance without exiting the vehicle. The camera view is also displayed on the central screen when the rear doors are opened.
The MBUX infotainment system, in conjunction with the Mercedes me connect app, unlocks a suite of digital extras that enhance the intelligence and convenience of the Sprinter and eSprinter. Complimentary services like maintenance, accident, and breakdown management, along with remote services such as door locking and unlocking, are easily managed via the Mercedes me connect app. New features include satellite view and significantly improved navigation, specifically optimized for trailers and oversized vehicles.
For fleets with diverse vehicle brands, Mercedes-Benz offers the flexibility to monitor all fleet operations through a unified interface using authorized telematics providers. The eSprinter’s MBUX integration extends to the electric vehicle ecosystem with intelligent navigation (Navigation with Electric Intelligence), active range management, and cloud-based services and apps. This ensures stress-free journeys with transparency and optimal planning security, enabling features like charging setting adjustments, optimized charging strategy calculation, and pre-conditioning.
Safety and Assistance Systems: Enhanced Support in Every Situation
The safety and assistance systems in the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and eSprinter have been upgraded with additional, new, and enhanced functions, many of which are now standard. Standard Active Brake Assist now incorporates an intersection function, providing warnings for perpendicularly crossing or oncoming vehicles at speeds up to 37 mph, dangerous overtaking maneuvers up to 43 mph, and emergency intervention up to 25 mph. It also assists with turning if a collision is imminent. Active Brake Assist also provides support at higher speeds.
The new Sideguard Assist, available with Blind Spot Assist, improves awareness of other road users on the passenger side. If a road user is detected in the danger zone when the turn signal is activated, an LED light flashes in the exterior mirror, accompanied by an acoustic warning in the instrument cluster.
For the first time, Moving-off Information Assist is optionally available to prevent collisions with road users in front of the vehicle when starting to move. This system detects road users within a 12-foot range in front and 19.6 inches beside the vehicle, issuing visual and acoustic warnings via the instrument cluster in case of an impending collision. This function is active up to 6 mph.
A new front camera enhances Active Lane Keeping Assist, preventing unintentional lane departures by providing corrective steering intervention when lane departure is detected. The optional digital interior mirror offers a clear rear view, even without a rear window or obstructed interior visibility. An HDR camera on the rear roof transmits a traffic image to the rearview mirror, which automatically adjusts display brightness based on ambient light conditions.
New eSprinter-specific options, crucial for commercial operations, include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Traffic Sign Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and a Parking Package with a 360-degree camera.
Andreas Zygan, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Development, emphasizes the holistic approach: “With its versatility, a new generation of infotainment systems and enhanced safety- and assistance systems, the Sprinter continues to be the perfect overall system solution for a wide range of commercial transport and mobility requirements. Meanwhile, the new eSprinter impresses with its efficiency, range and load volume. In doing so, it also underscores the Group’s claim to leadership in electric mobility in the commercially oriented segment.”
Upgraded Standard and Optional Equipment
Mercedes-Benz USA has comprehensively upgraded the standard equipment for both the new Sprinter and eSprinter and refined the equipment package structure to better align with customer preferences. Frequently combined functional equipment is now bundled into packages. Both models offer options like the Winter Package PLUS (heated front seats, heated steering wheel, wet wiper system) and the Drive Assist Package (driver assistance systems, 360-degree camera).
Standard features for the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and eSprinter now include a multifunction steering wheel with capacitive sensors, tire pressure monitoring (front/rear) for dual rear wheel models, rain sensor, entry handles on front doors, and passive child detection in crew or passenger models. Sprinter passenger models offer a SELECT line with leather steering wheel, driver comfort seat, comfort overhead control unit, and LED high-performance headlights with Adaptive Highbeam Assist.
