Mercedes-Benz’s modern Formula 1 journey began in 2010 with the creation of their own works team, setting the stage for a remarkable ascent in Grand Prix racing. The team immediately captivated fans with the sensational comeback of Michael Schumacher, but it was their on-track performance that truly made headlines. In their debut season, Mercedes secured three podium finishes, all thanks to Nico Rosberg. Rosberg then went on to achieve a groundbreaking pole position and victory double at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix, marking a significant milestone for the team.
The following season saw Lewis Hamilton join Rosberg, forming a formidable partnership. This duo engaged in legendary title battles, driving the Silver Arrows to unprecedented success and establishing Mercedes as a dominant force in modern F1 – a reign that lasted until the rise of Red Bull. However, with the talented George Russell now racing alongside rising star Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes remains a top contender in the sport, poised to challenge for championships once again.
2024 Season
Despite securing two victories each for George Russell and Lewis Hamilton with the somewhat unpredictable W15 car, Mercedes experienced a drop to fourth place in the overall standings. The season was further marked by the shocking announcement of Hamilton’s departure to Ferrari at the end of the year, adding an element of uncertainty and transition to the team’s future.
2023 Season
For the first time since 2011, Mercedes did not win a Grand Prix, as the W14 car showed limited improvement over its predecessor. However, relentless development and upgrades throughout the season allowed the team to overtake Ferrari in the final race, securing second place in the constructors’ championship, demonstrating their resilience and determination.
2022 Season
Major regulatory changes reshaped the competitive landscape of Formula 1, and Mercedes’ W13 car did not meet expectations. This placed them as the third fastest team, behind Red Bull and Ferrari. Newcomer George Russell achieved Mercedes’ single victory of the season and, notably, outscored Lewis Hamilton, who experienced his first winless season in his illustrious F1 career.
2021 Season
Mercedes faced their most significant challenge to their turbo-hybrid era dominance. Lewis Hamilton narrowly lost the drivers’ championship to Max Verstappen of Red Bull, despite winning eight races. Nevertheless, the team managed to secure their eighth consecutive constructors’ title, highlighting their consistent performance and teamwork under pressure.
2020 Season
Mercedes, led by Lewis Hamilton, reached new heights of performance and dominance. Hamilton won an impressive 11 races and broke numerous records on his way to equalling Michael Schumacher’s record of seven drivers’ world championships, despite missing a race due to Covid-19. With two additional wins from Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes secured another dominant double championship victory, further cementing their place in F1 history.
