Remembering Mercedes: A Life Cherished in New Bedford

Mercedes M. Masonoff, aged 24, from New Bedford, Massachusetts, sadly passed away on October 26, 2014. She was the beloved daughter of the late Venus M. Chumack and the late Christopher Masonoff.

Mercedes is lovingly remembered by her two young daughters, Ava Snow, aged 5, and Aaliyah Snow, aged 2. Her memory will also be cherished by her siblings: Justin Chumack, Amanda Paige, Christopher Masonoff Jr., and Justin Cacilhas. She leaves behind a vast and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins too numerous to fully list, but including aunts Toni Souliere, Terry Thompson, Eileen Chumack, Urana Chumack, and Crystal Chumack, and uncles Michael MacDonald and Andre Chumack. Among her many cousins are Leeah Chumack, David Souliere, Tasha Michaud, Shane Michaud, Krista Dinette, Brett Thompson, Joshua Thompson, and Asjia Rossetti, to name just a few from this large, close-knit family.

Mercedes was deeply loved by many, and it is with a heavy heart that these words are written. She held a special place in her heart for her mother and her brother, Justin Chumack. She had recently connected with her siblings from New York, Amanda Paige and Justin Cacilhas. While Christopher Jr. is mentioned, details of their relationship were not shared. Her greatest joy was undoubtedly her two daughters, Ava and Aaliyah Snow. The father of her children, Dean Snow, is acknowledged as a caring and supportive figure, considered family for his love for Mercedes and dedication to their children. Their relationship, like many, had its challenges, but the bond remained strong through their children.

Fond memories of Mercedes include childhood trips to Florida to visit her grandmother, where she developed a love for the beach. She also had a passion for tattoos, expressing her individuality and spirit. In her final days, Mercedes shared her life with her boyfriend, Jason Drake, whom she lived with. He is remembered as a kind person, and it is regrettable that he was met under such sorrowful circumstances.

This remembrance concludes with a heartfelt message: let no time pass without expressing your love to those dear to you. Life is fragile and can change irrevocably in an instant. Therefore, let us all echo the sentiment: “I LOVE YOU ALL!!” – Love, Uncle Mike.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visiting hours on Saturday, November 1, 2014, from 6-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, located at 495 Park St., New Bedford. Following cremation, Mercedes will be laid to rest with her mother, Venus, at Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, a peaceful final resting place in the community she called home. The services in New Bedford will be a time to reflect on Mercedes’ life and the lasting impact she had on those around her.
