The Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater in Tuscaloosa is embarking on a new chapter as the city of Tuscaloosa partners with Danny Wimmer Presents Talent Services, LLC (DWP) to manage talent bookings. This marks the first time since the venue’s opening in 2011 that a booking partner other than Birmingham’s Red Mountain Entertainment will be at the helm.
For over 13 years, Red Mountain Entertainment played a pivotal role in shaping the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater, formerly known as the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. They were instrumental in bringing a diverse array of performances to the venue, starting with The Avett Brothers for its inaugural show. However, the Tuscaloosa City Council recently decided not to renew Red Mountain Entertainment’s contract, which concludes at the end of this year.
Mayor Walt Maddox acknowledged Red Mountain Entertainment’s contribution in a public statement. “Red Mountain Entertainment has been vital to the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater’s creation and growth,” he stated, recognizing their significant role in establishing a robust foundation for future development.
This transition coincides with substantial upgrades and forward-thinking plans for the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater. The venue was renamed less than a year ago to reflect the strong partnership between the city and Mercedes-Benz U.S. International. City officials are also considering a comprehensive 10-year, three-phase plan to further enhance and modernize the amphitheater, ensuring it remains a premier destination for live entertainment.
The decision to partner with Danny Wimmer Presents Talent Services, LLC was unanimously approved by the Tuscaloosa City Council this Tuesday. DWP is a well-regarded name in the live entertainment industry, known for producing and promoting numerous large-scale music festivals and concerts across the nation.
“The Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater has become an essential part of our City’s identity and a key driver for economic growth over the past 13 years,” Mayor Maddox further commented. He expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Danny Wimmer Presents, stating the city’s commitment to “grow this legacy” by attracting fresh talent and delivering “unforgettable experiences” to the Tuscaloosa community.
As the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater moves forward with Danny Wimmer Presents, anticipation is building for the new talent and experiences this partnership will bring to Tuscaloosa. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to continued updates from the Tuscaloosa Thread regarding events at the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater and developments from City Hall and DWP.
