Having recently transitioned from the iconic Mercedes Benz M3 to the formidable C63 AMG, I felt compelled to share a direct, unbiased comparison for those considering a similar switch or simply intrigued by these performance titans. After months of daily driving, track days, and spirited mountain runs in both cars, here’s a detailed breakdown of my experiences.

Chassis and Handling: The Agile Mercedes Benz M3 Takes the Crown

While the C63 AMG is undeniably capable, the Mercedes Benz M3 chassis exhibits a superior sense of agility. You can immediately discern the AMG’s heavier nature; it handles admirably, yet it tends to understeer more noticeably than the M3. Transitions aren’t quite as seamless, and overall composure at the limit feels marginally less refined in the C63. However, the AMG does offer a sharper turn-in feel. Despite the C63 being relatively new with only 50,000 miles, it has developed some interior rattles – something my previous Mercedes Benz M3 never suffered from, pointing to potentially tighter build quality in the BMW in this specific area. The Mercedes Benz M3 edges out the C63 in this crucial aspect of driving dynamics.

Interior and Technology: C63 AMG Offers a Modern Edge

Stepping inside, the C63 AMG presents a more contemporary and technologically advanced cabin. The ergonomics are intuitively designed, and the overall aesthetic is arguably more modern and visually appealing compared to the Mercedes Benz M3. The seats in the C63 are firmer, yet remain just as comfortable for long drives as those in the M3. In terms of interior ambiance and modern features, the C63 takes the lead.

Transmission Performance: DCT vs. MCT – Manual vs. Auto Preferences

When it comes to transmissions, the dual-clutch transmission (DCT) in the Mercedes Benz M3 is simply exceptional in manual mode. However, the C63 AMG’s MCT transmission shines in automatic mode. The S65 engine in the Mercedes Benz M3 is undoubtedly a high-revving masterpiece, but the C63 AMG’s V8 engine takes the engine performance crown. Despite concerns around bearing issues and a relative lack of low-end torque in the S65, the AMG engine delivers significantly stronger pull across the entire rev range in any gear.
