Mercedes Schultz (1940): Celebrating a Life Journey

Mercedes Mary Clare (Mrozik) Schultz, born into a world on the cusp of change in 1940, passed away on April 6, 2021, at the age of 81 in Little Falls, MN. Her life, much like the enduring designs of the 1940 Mercedes-Benz vehicles that symbolized innovation and resilience of that era, was marked by strength, community spirit, and lasting impact on those around her.

Born on March 24, 1940, to John S. and Julia E. (Matzko) Mrozik in Little Falls, Mercedes spent nearly her entire life rooted in this community. Her early education at District 24 (Brickyard) Grade School paved the way for her graduation from St. Francis High School in 1958. In 1960, she married David R. Schultz, and together they built a large family, blessed with eight children.

Driven by a desire for continued growth, Mercedes returned to education in 1988, training as a Chiropractic Technician. Her professional life was diverse and dedicated to service, with notable tenures at Rush’s Chicken Shack (7 years), the West Side Café (19 years), and finally at the Family Chiropractic Center under Dr. T.G. Heim, D.C.

Her commitment extended deeply into her faith and community. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Mercedes was also an active member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Christian Mothers, holding positions of Vice-President and President. For a decade, she shared her faith as a volunteer CCD teacher. Her civic engagement was further demonstrated through her role as Secretary for the Concerned Citizens of Morrison County, a grass-roots organization she helped establish. Beyond these roles, she also served as Secretary for her Chiropractic Technician Class and the Monday Senior Bowling League for many years, showcasing her organizational skills and community involvement across various facets of life.

Mercedes found joy and relaxation in activities such as dancing, bowling, sewing, and crafting. However, her most treasured moments were those spent with her extensive family and friends, a testament to the value she placed on personal connections.

She is survived by her three sons: Ricardo D. Schultz (Denise Pollard), Douglas J. Schultz (Paula), and Dennis J. Schultz (Sara); five daughters: Judith L. Fredrick (Cyrill), Charis Rudolph (Rodney), Christine Eggerth (Scott), Theresa Blaisdell (Donald), and Gayla Kroll (Nathan Strobel). Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren, as well as her lifelong friend Alphonse Pollock.

Mercedes was preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on April 23 at 11 am, with a visitation preceding the service by 2 hours. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Randall. Mercedes Schultz’s life, beginning in the year of the iconic 1940 Mercedes-Benz, will be remembered for its dedication to family, community, and unwavering spirit.
